Overview:
One of the Key Priorities for The Albatross Group is simplification and the improvement of business processes. The Simplification Support Officer’s primary responsibility is to support the Group Project Manager in driving the simplification mission throughout the Group, helping to make the Albatross Group work more effectively as a whole than it does as the sum of its individual parts.
The Simplification Support Officer will take a leading role in the creation of complex yet user friendly solutions to fulfil business simplification requirements using a combination of Microsoft Products particularly Excel.
The Simplification Support Officer will work with the Group Project Manager and with all teams acting as a Champion of Excellence, a Champion of Simplification and a Champion of Knowledge Sharing.
Competencies for Success:
The Simplification Support Officer position requires a high level of general organisation as well as excellent communication skills combined with an ability to work independently, with various stakeholders or as part of a team. The ability to manage multiple priorities and projects for multiple teams/people along with the need to be both reactive and proactive is essential.
The Simplification Support Officer will demonstrate:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with experience of complex formula creation.
- A good knowledge of Microsoft Excel VBA coding (Macro creation).
- Competence in the use of Microsoft Visio.
- The ability to create robust, well presented user-friendly solutions.
- Data analysis skills, the ability to spot anomalies and to write effective commentary on commercial reports.
- Excellent practical knowledge of the MS Office Suite and experience of and competence in bespoke booking systems.
- An autodidactic nature, an intrinsic desire to learn and to find solutions.
- Initiative and both the ability and the willingness to challenge when appropriate to make decisions with confidence.
- Strong completer/finisher tendencies, the ability to see long and complex projects and tasks through to a successful conclusion.
- The ability to interact at all levels with confidence and clarity, particularly when explaining technical solutions to non-technical staff, when training or when offering advice or assistance.

Key Responsibilities:
Simplification and Business Improvement responsibilities including;
Developing and adapting complex Excel templates including Macros / VBA coding to fulfil business simplification requirements, independent of complexity the solutions should, at all times, be user-friendly, robust and well presented; dealing with queries from users on all new and existing templates and tools, including investigating issues and applying fixes as necessary; assisting with ad-hoc tasks throughout the Group using Microsoft products particularly Mail Merge and Excel; acting as the first point of reference for user queries and offering guidance and, where appropriate, training on Microsoft Products.
Business Intelligence responsibilities including;
Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation, analysis and reporting of a variety of commercial information and statistics on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and preparing commentary on the reports that are produced; highlighting anomalies in commercial information and investigating causes or errors; acting as a point of reference, as and when required, for the sourcing, preparing, analysing and reporting of ad-hoc commercial information and statistic requirements; supporting the delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Project Support responsibilities including;
Supporting the Group Project Manager in the management of key projects to ensure delivery; attending project meetings and recording minutes and action points; preparing process flowcharts and user stories; coordinating development testing and recording feedback; coordinating data tidying and migration projects when required.
